SUZHOU, China - Top seed Timea Babos advanced to the second round of the Caoxijiu Suzhou Ladies Open on Tuesday with a hard-fought win over wildcard Zhu Lin.

Despite sitting over 500 places above Zhu in the rankings, Babos left it late to make her move in the first and second sets, breaking in the final game both times to close out a 64 64 victory.

Last week, Babos made the final of an ITF Circuit event in Ukraine and admitted she was still feeling the after effects of her inter-continental travel schedule. "It was a difficult few days, I travelled like 30 hours and I only arrived here yesterday evening," Babos said. "The courts and the conditions here are very different and I'm still getting used to everything.

"It was a tough match for me but somehow I managed to win, which is the most important thing and hopefully I can have another good week."

Also clearing the first hurdle in Suzhou were the No.2 and No.3 seeds, Misaki Doi and Shahar Peer, who recorded straight set wins over Lui Chang and Wang Yafan, respectively.

Doi required little over an hour to brush aside Chang, 60 62, while Peer was similarly clinical in dispatching Wang, 63 61.

"I don't think I quite found my best tennis today," Peer said. "But I did what I had to do and because it was so hot I tried to spend as little time on court as possible. Hopefully I'm still feeling pretty fresh tomorrow for my next match."

While Peer managed to negate the effects of the heat by keeping her time on court to a minimum, No.5 seed Duan Ying-Ying was not so lucky, retiring with heat exhaustion at the end of the first set against Eri Hozumi.

Other opening round winners included Zhou Yi-Miao, Zheng Saisai and Michaella Krajicek.
