SUZHOU, China - While only one of the Top 3 seeds at the CAOXIJIU Suzhou Ladies Open has surrendered a set so far, second-seeded Misaki Doi has been the most impressive in her three matches en route to the semifinals.

Doi converted on six of seven break point chances in beating fellow Japanese Eri Hozumi, 64 63, in quarterfinal play Thursday. Her 18 games surrendered so far this week is least of the semifinalists.

Almost as dominant has been No.1 seed Timea Babos, as her 63 63 defeat of seventh-seeded Tamarine Tanasugarn also kept her perfect in sets won in Suzhou.

Surviving a test was third-seeded Shahar Peer, who seemingly had a smooth path to the semis when she was up 64 20 against sixth-seeded Zhou Yi-Miao. But then the Chinese ran off five straight games and eventually forced a third set. Peer regained control, though, breaking Zhou's serve four straight times in securing a 64 36 63 victory.

There was one upset, as Zheng Saisai downed No.4 seed and fellow Chinese Zhang Shuai, 76(4) 26 62, in just over three hours. In fact, just the first set lasted one hour and 40 minutes and featured Zheng fighting off two set points.

Before this week, Zheng had not won a match beyond the ITF Women's Circuit level since last September in Guangzhou but now finds herself in the semifinals of a WTA 125K Series event against Doi. Friday's other semifinal will see Babos and Peer face off.

Babos and Zheng also both secured semifinal spots in doubles Thursday, Babos advancing with Michaella Krajicek and Zheng with Tanasugarn. Babos also has not dropped a set in doubles this week, making her 10-0 in sets in singles and doubles.
