SAN DIEGO, USA - Sachia Vickery secured her place at this year's US Open after winning the USTA Girls' 18s National Championships on Sunday.

The USTA has traditionally awarded one of its eight main draw wildcards to the winner of the national junior title, which Vickery captured for the first time with a 46 62 60 victory over Allie Kiick.

"It feels unbelievable. It hasn't sunk in that I'm going to be playing at the US Open," Vickery said. "It's been my dream since I started playing tennis. I can't even put it into words how happy I am."

Vickery, who has never appeared in the main draw of a WTA event and is currently ranked No.229, made a tentative start to the final, struggling to assert herself in the breezy conditions. However, the loss of the first set appeared to liberate the 18-year-old and she raced through the final two sets in under an hour.

"The first set was a lot of nerves. My shot selection wasn't good and I was going for too much. I was letting her dictate on the bigger points," she said. "The difference between that and the last two sets was being more aggressive and going for my shots."

Twenty-four hours earlier Kiick and Vickery had been on the same side of the net, teaming up to defeat Taylor Townsend and Gabby Andrews for the doubles title and earning a spot in the US Open women's doubles main draw in the process.
