CINCINNATI, USA - Hsieh Su-Wei and Peng Shuai continued their sparkling summer form by defeating No.2 seeds Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina on Friday afternoon to reach the final of the Western & Southern Open.

At the start of July, the unseeded Hsieh and Peng came through to win their first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon. And judging by their form this week, the pair appears to be just as potent on the North American cement as they were on the south-west London grass.

Quick-fire wins in the opening two rounds stretched Hsieh and Peng's winning streak to eight matches, and number nine looked like it would be similarly brief when they dropped just one game in the opening set against Makarova and Vesnina.

In the second, the Russians dug in, overturning an early break before pinching the set following a wayward service game from Peng, but it was only a temporary reprieve. A couple of early mini-breaks helped Hsieh and Peng establish a healthy lead in the match tie-break and on their way to a 61 36 103 triumph.

Their opponents in the final will be Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Kveta Peschke, who comfortably saw off Barbora Zahlavova Strycova and Julia Goerges.

In the previous round Zahlavova Strycova and Goerges had knocked out Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci, yet they appeared to be running on empty against the No.6 seeds, falling an early break behind in both sets as they slipped to a 63 62 defeat.
