CINCINNATI, OH, USA - By virtue of her semifinal win over Li Na on Saturday at the Western & Southern Open, Serena Williams has clinched the 2013 Emirates Airline US Open Series.

"It's exciting because no matter what happens tomorrow, I've won something," Williams said. "And also it's always exciting to win the US Open Series, especially being from America and playing all of the tournaments in the USA, especially tonight. There was so much support. It was almost overwhelming, but it was just really cool. I haven't really felt that a lot. So it definitely feels really, really good."

Having also won the Emirates Airline US Open Series in 2011, Williams is the first two-time winner in its 10-year-history. She is also looking to become just the second series winner to go on to win that year's US Open, with Kim Clijsters having done so in 2005. The only two-time winner on the men's side is 2005 and 2006 series champ Andy Roddick, though 2008 winner Rafael Nadal has a chance for a second series win this year.

The Top 3 in the standings all earn bonus prize money at the US Open, with Williams as the series champ having the opportunity to secure an extra $1 million beyond the $2.6 million winner's check if she is victorious in Flushing Meadows. A runner-up showing would earn her $500,000 in bonus money, a semifinal showing $250,000 and a quarterfinal outing $125,000.

The Emirates Airline US Open Series is comprised of five pre-US Open events on the women's side, and though she has only played in two of them, a title in Toronto combined with at least a runner-up showing in Cincinnati lifted Williams to the top of this year's standings.
