WTA Diary: Farewells & Fresh Starts
Marion Bartoli

Every week there's a lot happening on the WTA - on the court, off the court, by the numbers, even a few tweets... catch up on it all in this week's WTA Diary.

Au Revoir, Marion
While Victoria Azarenka signed off ahead of the US Open with a rare victory over Serena Williams in the Cincinnati final, last week's WTA newsfeed was dominated by one woman and one woman only.

On Wednesday, Marion Bartoli stunned the tennis world by announcing her retirement just 40 days after winning Wimbledon. Bartoli and her many charms will be sorely missed by fans and players alike, as evidenced by the 200,000-plus mentions she received over the next 24 hours on Twitter, including these.

Shot Of The Day
Back on court, Williams proved she is just as gracious in defeat as she is in victory, wholeheartedly applauding Azarenka for this superb volley to bring up match point in Cincinnati.

Pulling Shapes
Modesty was in short supply when the WTA cameras caught up with the top four seeds in New Haven to find out who's toughest to beat, who's most superstitious and who's first onto the dance floor?

All Change
Elsewhere, it has been all change in the coaching department as Maria Sharapova and Samantha Stosur parted ways with Jimmy Connors and Dave Taylor, respectively. Neither player has lined up a replacement yet, although Stosur has revealed she will be working on an interim basis with fellow Aussie and former player Aicia Molik.

Star Attraction
The Arthur Ashe Kids' Day, the unofficial kickoff to the US Open, never fails to attract a stellar line-up, and this year is no different. In addition to Serena Williams, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, First Lady Michelle Obama will be present to promote her 'Let's Move!' campaign.
