NEW YORK, NY, USA - Many of the women's doubles matches scheduled for Wednesday at the US Open were canceled, but seeded duos Nadia Petrova and Katarina Srebotnik and Liezel Huber and Nuria Llagostera Vives did manage to advance to the second round.

The third-seeded Petrova and Srebotnik, whose three WTA titles and three runner-up showings this season have led them to second place in the Race to the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships - Istanbul 2013, were 62 64 winners over Elina Svitolina and Renata Voracova. It was the 30th hardcourt win of their partnership, which dates back to 2003.

As for No.9 seeds Huber and Llagostera Vives, they had their best outing as a duo last week in reaching the semifinals in New Haven. And they carried that momentum into Flushing Meadows, recording their most lopsided win yet, 61 61, over Nina Bratchikova and Bojana Jovanovski.

The American-Spanish duo converted on all five break points on their opponents' serves and never faced a break point on their own. In fact, they only lost five points in their seven service games.

The mixed doubles event also got underway Wednesday, with fourth-seeded Kveta Peschke and Marcin Matkowski among the winners. Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Alexander Peya are seeded first and Srebotnik and Nenad Zimonjic second.

Also in the draw are Martina Hingis and Mahesh Bhupathi. Hingis' lone mixed doubles major came alongside Bhupathi at the 2006 Australian Open. She is also playing her first Grand Slam women's doubles event in seven years this fortnight alongside Daniela Hantuchova.

Thursday's doubles schedule includes the Williams sisters getting their quest for their third US Open and 14th Grand Slam title started.
