The Tashkent Open featured the somewhat unusual occurrence of the No.1 seeds in singles and doubles winning the tournament. In fact, that was just the fifth instance of a No.1 seed sweep in the 47 WTA events played so far this year. Here is a rundown of each occurrence:

Event Top-Seeded Singles Champs Top-Seeded Doubles Champs
Shenzhen Li Na Chan/Chan
Australian Open Victoria Azarenka Errani/Vinci
Doha Victoria Azarenka Errani/Vinci
Bastad Serena Williams Medina Garrigues/Zakopalova
Tashkent Bojana Jovanovski Babos/Shvedova

Note: There was a No.1 seed sweep in five WTA events in 2012.
