Ivanovic & Pironkova: Sofia Wildcards

SOFIA, Bulgaria - The Tournament Of Champions - Sofia has awarded its two wildcards for this year's event. Having already given the first one to Bulgarian No.1 Tsvetana Pironkova, it has just announced its second wildcard will go to Ana Ivanovic, a two-time winner of the event when it was held in Bali.

"Our choice was difficult because there were many candidates for the tournament's invitation," said Tournament Director Stefan Tsvetkov of the announcement. "We believe Ana deserved her wildcard because besides being a former World No.1 player, she is also a two-time winner of this tournament."

"I'm really looking forward to going to Sofia," Ivanovic said of the news. "I've done very well in the Tournament Of Champions and my goal is to win it for a third time. I've been to Bulgaria once before, but I didn't have the chance to explore, so on this trip I'll definitely take some time to enjoy the city."

Ivanovic's career highlights have been winning the 2008 French Open and subsequently rising to No.1 in the world, but some of her greatest moments have come in the Tournament Of Champions - the last two of her 11 WTA titles came when the tournament was held in Bali, Indonesia, in 2010 and 2011.

Pironkova's highlights are seven WTA semifinals, including a Grand Slam semifinal at Wimbledon in 2010 (falling to Vera Zvonareva) and a semifinal at the Tournament Of Champions - Sofia last year.
