Stats Corner: From Zero To Six
Simona Halep

As recently as early June, Simona Halep was a three-time WTA finalist who had not yet captured a title. Yet over the next five months, the Romanian incredibly collected six WTA titles - at Nürnberg, 's-Hertogenbosch, Budapest, New Haven, Moscow and Sofia. That made her one of just six players in the Open Era to win their first six tour-level titles all in the same season. Here is the list of those who have accomplished this feat:

Player Year Titles
Margaret Court* 1968 13
Ann Jones* 1969 7
Evonne Goolagong Cawley 1970 6
Dianne Balestrat 1973 6
Steffi Graf 1986 8
Simona Halep 2013 6

*=Also won titles before start of Open Era
Note: Virginia Wade in 1968, Manuela Maleeva-Fragniere in 1984, Patty Schnyder in 1998 and Serena Williams in 1999 all won their first five tour-level titles in the same season.
