MELBOURNE, Australia - Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik got off to a slow start on Wednesday in their first Grand Slam match in a year and a half but eventually secured entry into the second round of the Australian Open.

Peschke and Srebotnik went their separate ways after their second round loss at Wimbledon in 2012 despite a partnership that had seen them collect nine WTA titles, including Wimbledon in 2011, the same year they finished as the WTA's No.1-ranked doubles team. But they reunited at the start of 2014, reaching the quarterfinals in Brisbane and Sydney coming into Melbourne.

In their opener here, the fourth-seeded Peschke and Srebotnik recorded a 26 63 62 triumph over Romanians Alexandra Cadantu and Simona Halep - their 70th hardcourt win as a duo.

All of the other seeded teams in first round action, No.8 seeds Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears, No.11 seeds Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Mirjana Lucic-Baroni, No.13 seeds Chan Hao-Ching and Liezel Huber and No.16 seeds Vania King and Galina Voskoboeva, also advanced.

Kops-Jones and Spears had the easiest time of the seeded winners, needing just 57 minutes for a 61 61 defeat of Chuang Chia-Jung and Liga Dekmeijere.

No.1 seeds and defending champions Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci, No.2 seeds Hsieh Su-Wei and Peng Shuai, No.3 seeds Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina and No.5 seeds and 2013 Australian Open runners-up Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua are among those on Thursday's schedule.

However, the match that will receive the most attention is the tilt involving 12th-seeded Kristina Mladenovic and Flavia Pennetta versus the Williams sisters, whose 13 majors are the third-most for a duo in the Open Era.

The mixed doubles draw also was released Wednesday, with Groenefeld and Alexander Peya the No.1 seeds, Srebotnik and Rohan Bopanna the No.2 seeds, Huber and Marcelo Melo the No.3 seeds and Andrea Hlavackova and Max Mirnyi the No.4 seeds. Groenefeld has one mixed doubles Grand Slam title to her credit, Srebotnik has five, Huber has two and Hlavackova has one.
