Friday is the first day of the Chinese New Year, and a few days ago in Singapore the breakthrough star of the 2014 season so far, Eugenie Bouchard, recorded a special message for the Chinese fans.

SINGAPORE - While Eugenie Bouchard was in Singapore for the official launch event for the Road To Singapore and WTA Championships, she recorded this very special greeting for Chinese New Year.

It means hello, Happy New Year (obviously) and then, loosely translated, "hope your year of the horse runs fast." This is going to be the year of the horse in China, according to the Chinese Zodiac.

It has already been an absolute breakthrough year in the Western calendar for Bouchard, who not only became the second Canadian ever to reach a Grand Slam semifinal at the Australian Open (after Carling Bassett-Seguso at the 1984 US Open) but is now the third Canadian to break into the Top 20 in the world in WTA history (after former No.8 Bassett-Seguso and former No.13 Helen Kelesi).
