WUHAN, China - She's always had great starts to the year, but this time it was the greatest start of anyone. Li Na made an absolutely perfect start to the season last month, not just winning the lead-up title in Shenzhen but also going on to win her second Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.

They weren't all easy - she was pushed to three sets twice, by Monica Niculescu in the quarterfinals of Shenzhen and by Lucie Safarova in the third round of the Australian Open, even fighting off a match point in that one - but Li was a perfect 12-0 in January, returning to No.3 in the world afterwards.

For that reason, the Chinese trailblazer is the WTA's Player Of The Month for January.

So what's Li's next goal? She answered that exact question after her Australian Open triumph.

"It's very easy to say I want to win another one, but I know how much work it takes to win a Grand Slam. So if I want to win another one or two, I have to go back on the court and work very hard.

"Otherwise, no chance."

The WTA Player Of The Month award is a new addition for 2014 and voted for by WTA staff.
