WTA Rising Star Of The Month: Kurumi

Kurumi Nara had a breakout tournament at the inaugural Rio Open and rode it all the way to her first career WTA title. For that reason she has been named WTA Rising Star Of The Month for February.

HYOGO, Japan - Kurumi Nara captured her very first career WTA title at the inaugural staging of the Rio Open in Brazil. In the first red clay tournament of the year Nara looked impressive, defeating top seed Klara Zakopalova in the final.

For that reason, Nara has been named the WTA's Rising Star Of The Month for Febraury.

After being told she would break the Top 50 afterwards, Nara was elated - and stepped up her goals. "I can't believe it! I guess now I want to stay in the Top 50 this year!" she said.

"But it's really amazing. I try not to think about being No.1 in Japan. I really just try to focus on my game and my tennis every day. I just try my best every time and now I have my first WTA title. I'm so happy right now."
