INDIAN WELLS, CA, USA - Former Indian Wells champions and former World No.1s Caroline Wozniacki and Jelena Jankovic are both on the schedule as the BNP Paribas Open third round gets underway, and will face each other if they can each withstand upset bids.

Sunday, Third Round

Stadium 1
[10] Caroline Wozniacki (DEN #12) vs. [Q] Yaroslava Shvedova (KAZ #64)
Head-to-head:
Shvedova leads 1-0
Yaroslava Shvedova could be a dangerous opponent for Caroline Wozniacki, considering the Kazakhstani is match tough, having won two qualifying and two main draw matches this week to reach the third round here for the first time. One of three qualifiers still in the draw, Shvedova made her sixth WTA semifinal just last week in Florianopolis. And on top of that, she won her one previous clash with Wozniacki in the first round of Madrid last year for her fifth Top 10 win. Another victory on Sunday would be her 13th over a Top 20 foe.

However, Wozniacki is often in her best form in Indian Wells. She is one of six women to have reached the final at least three times, having been champion in 2011 and runner-up in 2010 and 2013. Her comfortable second round defeat of Bojana Jovanovski improved her record to 25-6 here.

[7] Jelena Jankovic (SRB #8) vs. [31] Magdalena Rybarikova (SVK #36)
Head-to-head:
Jankovic leads 2-0
Jelena Jankovic has experienced some major highs and lows in her history at the BNP Paribas Open. She won her biggest title to date here in 2010. However, she lost her opener in 2012 and 2013 and in fact, her win over Yvonne Meusburger on Friday snapped a three-match Indian Wells losing streak.

Seeded here for the first time, Magdalena Rybarikova is looking to reach the fourth round for the first time. A triumph over Jankovic would be her fourth Top 10 win and tied for her best, having beaten World No.8 Marion Bartoli in Toronto last August by virtue of retirement. The Slovak failed to win a set in her previous two meetings with Jankovic, though they haven't faced off in almost four years.

Stadium 2
[6] Simona Halep (ROU #7) vs. [26] Lucie Safarova (CZE #28)
Head-to-head: Tied 1-1
When she last played Lucie Safarova in the Nürnberg semifinals last June, Simona Halep was ranked outside the Top 50 and had yet to capture a WTA title. Halep went on two win that encounter with Safarova, as well as the final in Nürnberg, and has collected six more WTA titles since. That incredible run has seen her become the third Romanian to crack the Top 10, and she now resides at No.7.

"I'm enjoying every day and every match," Halep said after her second round win over Kurumi Nara on Friday. "It's really nice to win and I don't like to lose, so I want to keep going like this if  possible. But next round I know will be a tough match. Lucie is a great player and she's a lefty, so it won't be easy."

Safarova is aiming for her 18th Top 10 win and her second this season, having defeated No.10 Wozniacki at Sydney in January.

Around the grounds...
No.2 seed Agnieszka Radwanska takes on rising German Annika Beck, and No.9 seed Sara Errani looks to stave off the challenge of Canadian star Eugenie Bouchard.
