INDIAN WELLS, CA, USA - No.5 seeds Cara Black and Sania Mirza shook off their recent match tie-break hoodoo to defeat Lucie Hradecka and Zheng Jie and reach the final of the BNP Paribas Open.

In recent months, Black and Mirza have endured their fair share of heartbreak, losing a tight quarterfinal to Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci at the Australian Open and snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in both Doha and Dubai.

The setbacks in the Middle East were particularly galling for the Zimbabwean-Indian duo, having held match points in both matches. However, on Thursday, it was third time lucky, as they held off a mid-match rally from Hradecka and Zheng to triumph, 64 36 107.

"I think the last two times we've played match tie-breaks we've lost from match point up, so we're happy to come through this time," Mirza said. "I think one of the good things about this match was that we weren't playing our best tennis, but we still came through."

Since joining forces at the end of last season, Black and Mirza have rapidly established themselves as one of the WTA's leading teams. Their first two tournaments together, in Tokyo and Beijing, ended in victory and now they are targeting Grand Slam success.

"Of course, our goal as a team is to win a Grand Slam, but it's so competitive at the moment so we can't look too far ahead and just have to take it match by match," Mirza added. "We've had a couple of tough weeks, but now we're playing well and hopefully it can continue."

In the final, Black and Mirza will face either top seeds Hsieh Su-Wei and Peng Shuai or wildcards Svetlana Kuznetsova and Samantha Stosur, who meet on Friday.
