PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL, USA - Serena Williams stormed through Miami, defeating three Top 10 players including Angelique Kerber, Maria Sharapova and Li Na in en route to a seventh Sony Open Tennis title.

For that reason, Williams has been named the WTA's Player Of The Month for March.

Williams joined an elite list of WTA players after winning her seventh Sony Open Tennis title. She is now one of only four players to win the same WTA event seven or more times (along with Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova and Steffi Graf).

Williams also made a jump from ninth place to fourth place in the latest Road To Singapore leaderboard for the season-ending BNP Paribas WTA Championships presented by SC Global.

"It was a really important victory, especially playing Li Na, who has been playing so well," Williams said. "We're playing great tennis and we're No.1 and No.2, and we're both the same age."
