MARRAKECH, Morocco - A rainy first day of main draw action at the Grand Prix SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem saw the lone seed in action, Yvonne Meusburger, safely advance to the second round.

The third-seeded Meusburger, who made her first WTA quarterfinal of the season at her last event in Katowice two weeks ago, found herself in an early 2-0 hole against Petra Cetkovska on Monday. But from there, the Austrian won nine of the next 10 games en route to a 63 63 triumph that saw her convert on seven of 10 break point chances. She has now won three straight matches in their series.

Lourdes Domínguez Lino has fond memories of this tournament, having played it when it was held in Rabat, Fès and then its first staging in Marrakech last year, when she won four three set matches en route to the final and her best WTA outing in over two years.

The 33-year-old Spaniard began her 2014 Grand Prix SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem campaign with a 62 75 victory over Alla Kudryavtseva, improving to 3-0 in their series without having dropped a set.

Former World No.11 Shahar Peer came into Marrakech in good form, having reached her first WTA quarterfinal since July at her last event in Katowice. And she continued that form in reeling off eight straight games from 2-2 in the first set against Petra Martic en route to a 62 63 win that saw her convert on six of eight break point opportunities.

Securing main draw berths with wins in the final round of qualifying were Maryna Zanevska, Lara Arruabarrena, Renata Voracova and Beatriz García Vidagany.

Doubles play also got underway, with No.1 seeds and this year's Monterrey champs Darija Jurak and Megan Moulton-Levy victorious in a match tie-break over Margarita Gasparyan and Marina Melnikova.

Among those scheduled to play their singles openers on Tuesday are No.1 seed Daniela Hantuchova and No.8 seed and defending champion Francesca Schiavone.
