No.5-seeded Garbiñe Muguruza was the first to advance, beating Shahar Peer in 69 minutes, 63 61. Muguruza broke seven times in the match - in fact she converted on a steely seven of 10 break points.

Torró-Flor followed her countrywoman into the semifinals with a much tougher 76(3) 76(5) win over Polona Hercog in a battle between unseeded players. Hercog had her chances in both sets - she was up 5-3 in the first set and was two points away from winning the second set several times - but each and every time Torró-Flor would come through, eventually prevailing in two hours and four minutes.

Muguruza and Torró-Flor are tied in their head-to-head series, 1-1.

The other semifinal will pit No.1 seed Daniela Hantuchova against Romina Oprandi. Oprandi was the first of the two to advance, upsetting No.3 seed Yvonne Meusburger, 64 64 - the Swiss won nine of 11 games from 0-3 in the first set to lead 64 31, and she never really looked back en route to the victory.

Hantuchova advanced via walkover when No.6 seed Peng Shuai had to pull out due to a thigh injury.

Hantuchova beat Oprandi in their only previous head-to-head meeting.
