Blake Signs Up For New Haven Lesson

As the location of one of the world's great universities, New Haven knows a thing or two about education. And in recent years the city's dedication to teaching young people has extended itself to the tennis court.

Since 2002, every August the New Haven Open at Yale has enlisted the help of one of the world's leading tennis players to help encourage the next generation to pick up a racquet. Former World No.4 James Blake will be the star attraction at this year's New Haven Open Free Lesson, where he will introduce more than 300 children to the game.

The lesson, which will be held at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale University on Thursday, May 15, will highlight the importance of exercise and encourage those in attendance to sign up for affordable summer tennis lessons through New Haven Parks & Recreation Department.

In the 12 years since its launch, more than 5,500 children have taken part in the lesson, which has been taken by names such as former Wimbledon champion Zina Garrison, Alexandra Stevenson and Patrick McEnroe.
