STRASBOURG, France - In a way, Andrea Petkovic's 2014 campaign at the Internationaux de Strasbourg will be a title defense for her, as she has not played the event since capturing the title here in 2011 and has high hopes of another deep run.

"I just love Strasbourg. It's so beautiful," Petkovic said. "I remember that I really enjoyed my stay here in 2011, and then also played well at the French Open, so I only have great memories here."

Petkovic has had to contend with extremely tough draws so far during her European clay court season.

"After coming from Australia for Fed Cup, I played Pennetta in the first round of Stuttgart," Petkovic said. "I played Errani in Madrid in the first round and I played Serena in the second round of Rome. I have been a little bit unlucky, but I feel like I'm hitting the ball well and I'm hoping that everything will come together in time."

Seeded fourth this week, Petkovic will take on French wildcard Pauline Parmentier in her opener.

"There are a lot of good players here," Petkovic said. "It's going to be really difficult to repeat the title that I had in 2011. I'm just going to take it match by match. I think the main goal is to get a couple matches under my belt and play well and get good preparation for the French Open."

And no matter what happens at Roland Garros, Petkovic is happy with her season so far, which has included her biggest WTA title to date in Charleston and a Fed Cup win over Samantha Stosur that helped Germany win its World Group semifinal against Australia.

"All in all I'm pretty satisfied because of the title in Charleston and the success in Fed Cup," Petkovic said. "I have had some really nice highlights. I think I have become a better tennis player since I've been working with my new coach. I've really grown and have added some new things to my game."
