PARIS, France - No.6 seed Jelena Jankovic looked like a strong contender to come through her quarter of the draw, which no longer contains World No.2 Li Na, with a straight set defeat of Japanese No.1 Kurumi Nara in the second round of the French Open on Thursday.

The Plot
Jankovic was squaring off with Nara for the third straight Grand Slam, having pulled out tight two-setters at the 2013 US Open and 2014 Australian Open.

Nara came into this encounter ranked No.44, one spot off her career-high, amid a season that has also seen her capture her first WTA title in Rio de Janeiro.

Turning Point
The match began with 10 straight holds, but then Jankovic broke and held to grab the momentum and the set. Jankovic ended up winning the last eight games of the match, as she cruised through the second set of her 7-5, 6-0 victory.

By The Numbers
Jankovic made good on four of eight break point chances while fending off the one break point she faced on her serve. She also had a big advantage in the unforced error count, with 14 compared to 26 for Nara.

Quotes
"My balls were going really, really short, so she took advantage of that," Jankovic said. "I did not break her until that game at 5-all. Then I started playing a little more aggressively in the second set and it made a difference. She gets so many balls back and doesn't give you many free points, so you have to work your way through. Especially in slow conditions like this, it's not easy. I'm happy with my win.

"My opponent is always tough to play against. We have been playing against each other the last three Grand Slams, so hopefully she can play someone else from now on."

What's Next
Jankovic plays No.26 seed Sorana Cirstea. She has lost both of her clay court match-ups with the Romanian and is 2-3 overall against her.
