PARIS, France - There may have been plenty of smiling and joking between points, but it was business as usual for No.1 seeds Hsieh Su-Wei and Peng Shuai on Friday as they booked their place in the third round of the French Open.

Since being confirmed as co-World No.1s in Madrid earlier this month, things have not exactly gone to plan for Hsieh and Peng, who lost their next match to Carla Suárez Navarro and Garbiñe Muguruza before falling to Anabel Medina Garrigues and Yaroslava Shvedova at the first hurdle of their next tournament, in Rome.

However, they have returned to winning ways in Paris, following up a comfortable opening round triumph by brushing aside Vera Dushevina and Zheng Saisai, 6-1, 6-3, in exactly an hour.

The No.2 seeds, Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci, were made to work slightly harder to secure their passage through, eventually seeing off Shuko Aoyama and Renata Voracova, 6-4, 6-4. Meeting them next will be Andrea Petkovic and Magdalena Rybarikova, who scored a minor upset by knocking out No.14 seeds Klara Koukalova and Monica Niculescu, 1-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Also advancing were No.12 seeds Kristina Mladenovic and Flavia Pennetta, No.16 seeds Marina Erakovic and Arantxa Parra Santonja, and Kaia Kanepi and Alexandra Panova.
