May 2014 WTA Rising Star Of The Month Finalists:

Eugenie Bouchard: 20-year-old Bouchard had a disappointing start to May after opening round exits in Madrid and Rome but more than made up for it with her play in Nürnberg and Roland Garros. Bouchard won her first career title at the NÜRNBERGER VERSICHERUNGSCUP edging Karolina Pliskova in three sets. Bouchard carried that momentum into Roland Garros advancing to the semifinals before falling to eventual champion Maria Sharapova. Bouchard is actually the only player to make both the Australian Open and French Open semifinals this season.

Garbiñe Muguruza: 20-year-old Muguruza had a month she will never forget. After decent showings making the second round in Madrid and Rome, Muguruza entered Roland Garros with a monster challenge. Play Serena Williams in the second round. The WTA RIsing Star was up for the challenge and stunned the World No.1, 6-2, 6-2. Handing Serena her worst Grand Slam defeat of her career! Muguruza backed up the win with a run to the quarterfinals before losing to eventual champion Maria Sharapova.

Monica Puig: 20-year-old Puig became the first Puerto Rican player to win a WTA title after winning Strasbourg. En route to the final Puig defeated Andrea Petkovic, fellow WTA Rising Star Madison Keys and fellow first-time WTA finalist Sílvia Soler-Espinosa.
