Ivanovic Breezes Into Quarterfinals

Ana Ivanovic raced past Lauren Davis, 6-1, 6-1, on Thursday and into the quarterfinals of the Aegon Classic.

BIRMINGHAM, England - Top seed Ana Ivanovic needed little over an hour to see off Lauren Davis and book her place in the quarterfinals of the Aegon Classic on Thursday.

The Plot
Following her French Open disappointment, Ivanovic wasted no time in getting back in the swing of things in her grass court opener, registering a comfortable win over Mona Barthel. The Serb was a semifinalist in Birmingham on her last visit, in 2011, and another deep run will edge her ever closer to reclaiming her place in the Top 10.

The Turning Point
For Ivanovic, the only moment of concern during her 6-1, 6-1 win came in the very first game, when she served her way out of a 0-40-shaped hole. From that moment on, it was one-way traffic, Ivanovic swatting away a forehand to break in the next game before rattling through the rest of the set.

The winners continued to flow off Ivanovic's racquet in the second, a crushing forehand return giving her the early break. Another was to follow and it was not long before she wrapped up victory when a Davis forehand drifted into the tramlines.

By The Numbers
Aside from the opening game, Ivanovic's groundstrokes were nearly flawless throughout, helping her fire down 28 winners in her 68 minutes on court.

What's Next
In the quarterfinals, Ivanovic will face No.6 seed Klara Koukalova, who recovered from a set and 5-3 down to defeat CoCo Vandeweghe.
