LONDON, England - WTA Rising Star Taylor Townsend and WTA veteran Vera Zvonareva have been announced among the wildcards for Wimbledon, which begins in just nine days at the All-England Club.

Townsend, who just had her breakthrough tournament at Roland Garros - playing in her first Grand Slam main draw, she made it all the way to the third round - was thrilled with the news of the wildcard.

It could be even more special for Zvonareva. A former World No.2 and two-time Grand Slam finalist, including right here in 2010, the Russian missed almost a year and a half of action between 2012 and 2014 due to illness and a shoulder injury, and has been trying to work her way back up this year.

Townsend is also a former finalist at Wimbledon - the girls' runner-up last year (to Belinda Bencic).

Other wildcards already announced are Sílvia Soler-Espinosa, Kristyna Pliskova and British players Naomi Broady, Tara Moore and Samantha Murray. There will be one more wildcard announced.

Zvonareva has also been named as one of the doubles wildcard pairs alongside Martina Hingis.
