With big-name casualties, epic encounters and the arrival of a new wave of talented upstarts, this year's French Open will go down as one of the most memorable in recent history. This recipe also proved a hit among armchair tennis fans, as record numbers tuned in to watch.

And according to insidethegames, for European broadcaster Eurosport the figures were particularly impressive. The channel, which has been on air since the late 1980s, attracted over 60 million viewers throughout the fortnight, and 3.8 million alone for Maria Sharapova's thrilling victory over Simona Halep in the final.
