Quotable Quotes: Simona, Vika & More

How has Simona Halep's French Open run sunken in? How is Victoria Azarenka feeling about her comeback? All the best quotes from the WTA stars right here!

Published June 16, 2014 12:15

It's been a busy few days in Europe - Rally For Bally at three venues in the UK, pre-tournament press for the WTA stars in Eastbourne and 's-Hertogenbosch. Here are some of their best quotes...

Simona Halep
During an interview in 's-Hertogenbosch, on how her French Open run has settled in...

"I left Roland Garros with only positive things, of course. The day before the final it was very difficult for me to stay cool and relaxed, and I was crying a little bit after the match, but then I was happy. I was thinking to myself that I played my biggest final, and at my favorite tournament too, so I knew I had to start smiling at the ceremony because it was just so special. And I'm even happier since then."

On whether her fame in Romania has grown since Paris...
"At home everyone knows me now. It's a lot of attention, but I'm happy I played the final and I'm happy I'm Top 3, and I have to enjoy it. It's definitely the best moment of my career so far."

When asked to complete the phrase, 'When people talk about me, I hope they say...'
"... that I'm a nice girl."

Jelena Jankovic
On if she enjoys playing on grass...
"I try to enjoy playing on this surface, but I think it's the surface I play the worst on. I'm still learning to play on this surface. I find it quite difficult and quite different from any other surface. But I try to do my best on it and hopefully I'll have a better year on grass courts than my year last year."

Petra Kvitova
As a Wimbledon champion, her advice for players on grass...

"Well, everyone is different, and it's not for everyone, but of course more flat shots are better on the grass than more spin, and maybe play more aggressive than you would normally play."

Victoria Azarenka
On Rally For Bally...

"Elena was one of us. I will always remember our matches, what a fighter she was and how much she loved tennis. The tennis world is together in the Rally For Bally, to try to raise as much money as possible for the academy she was so passionate about, and to fund the ongoing fight against cancer."

Martina Navratilova
On her Rally For Bally experience...

"This match is a bittersweet experience. We love this sport so much, which is why we came together, but life really stinks sometimes. It's not fair. It stinks that this is why we're getting together to play. But the legacy will live on and that's the main thing. There'll be plenty of kids that will benefit from this very premature death of Elena Baltacha. But it's amazing that Elena did this academy while she was still playing, that really is an amazing effort, and we'll keep it going."
