Your Say: Naming Stosur's Four Ace Game
Published June 18, 2014 12:14
BIRMINGHAM, England - Slammin' Sam Stosur wasn't the first to hit four aces to win a game at love, but it was the first time we caught it on video on wtatennis.com - and we looked everywhere but couldn't find a nickname for it. So we asked you - and there was one that came up A LOT...
THE RUNNER-UP: USANACE
I think it should be called a "USANAce" because Sam Stosur is a great ambassador of USANA and women's tennis.
THE WINNER: GOLDEN GAME
(we will refer to this feat as a golden game from now on on wtatennis.com)
I would call it a golden game.
Four aces in a game = Golden Game.
Hi WTA! Sam came up with some wicked serving, wow! Anyway, it should be called: "The Golden Game" = as only one racquet touches the ball.
When Serena did this in the Wimbledon final (shortly after the famous golden set event) they called it a "golden game".
A golden game... she served a golden game. A+.
Golden Service Game (to correlate with Golden Set, but here, there were only serves).
Golden Game, Serena Game, an Ace-Rod game.
(thirty more from the rest of your answers!)
A "Serena". Pretty sure she's done it before, but if she hasn't, why not celebrate the greatest serve of all time and the player who's hit more aces than any other player by naming it after her. And if not, I suppose a "Stosur" would do!
Why not a Stosur?
Call it a "Stosur"!
I think a four ace game should be called a 'Slammer' as aces are big serves and the name suits.
This should be called an Ace Game. Strange it hasn't been named before :/
I think we can call it "Fantastic Four".
Four aces in a game = E.P.D. (Every Player's Dream)
My tennis-playing 14-year-old son says it should be called "tough love" :)
A diamond game.
Four of kind!!!!!
A shutout or a season (since there's four in a year).
Bazinga! A catchy phrase to accompany your clever pranks. As popularized by Sheldon Cooper (The Big Bang Theory). Other options: A Zinger, A Flabbergast, A Bamboozle.
I would call it a Poker because it's composed of four aces like the poker card game.
It should be called a "shut out" game because they have literally been shut out of even returning one serve!
It should be called a "service slam"!
It should be called the Fantastic Four game.
I believe the official nickname or tennis term for serving a love game with four aces could be: a foursie.
I think credit should go to Samantha Stosur. Let's nickname it "Stosur Quartet".
n. pl. wham•mies Slang
1. A supernatural spell for subduing an adversary; a hex: put the whammy on someone.
2. A serious or devastating setback: "The triple whammy: government cuts, declining corporate giving, and less favorable tax laws" (New York Times).
Hello! My name for that would be "a quadace".
I would name it Sam-Ace, cause it's pronounced almost as Some-Ace!
Super Ace - Signifies something special, something... SUPER.
Four aces in a game = face. Stosur serves a face...
Four aces in a game: "ACE TO LOVE". It's appropriate, it makes sense, it sounds cool, and it relates to "hold to love" (which is common tennis talk). And I want credit... ha ha.
