EASTBOURNE, England - Caroline Wozniacki continued her impressive start to the grass court season with a straight set win over Sloane Stephens in the second round of the Aegon International.

The Plot
In four previous meetings with Stephens, Wozniacki had never lost so much as a set, winning the most recent of these, 6-1, 6-0, earlier this year, in Miami. Following an early exit at the French Open, she warmed up for their latest encounter by overcoming Samantha Stosur in the opening round.

The Turning Point
Wozniacki was champion in Eastbourne five years ago and looked very much at home on the grass during her 6-3, 6-3 victory. A solitary break at the start of each set proved the difference between the two, as the Dane soaked up the best Stephens could throw at her.

As the match progressed, Wozniacki grew in confidence, mixing some more adventurous shotmaking into her usual consistent game. It proved too much for Stephens, who pushed a backhand wide to slip to defeat after just 66 minutes.

Quotes
"I feel great - it's amazing to be playing out here and Sloane is a tough opponent so I'm really pleased about the way the match went," Wozniacki said. "I'm through to the next round and hopefully I can get at least one more match out here on the grass.

"I felt like I played very consistently. I ran down everything really well and I just tried to take the ball as early as possible."

What's Next
In the quarterfinals, Wozniacki faces Camila Giorgi, who came back from the brink to defeat wildcard Johanna Konta. Giorgi won the pair's previous meeting at last year's US Open.
