LONDON, England - Shuko Aoyama and Renata Voracova recovered from a disastrous start to upset former doubles No.1s Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond in the second round of Wimbledon.

Having lost the first set without picking up a game, Aoyama and Voracova showed great character to hit back to take a 56-minute second. In the decider, both teams struggled to hold serve, but surprisingly it was Aoyama and Voracova that held their nerve at the death to complete a 0-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 win.

Their reward could be a meeting with another pair of former No.1s, Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci, who take on Ukrainian sisters Lyudmyla and Nadiia Kichenok on Saturday.

Huber and Raymond were not the only seeds to fall at the second hurdle. No.13 seeds Lucie Hradecka and Michaella Krajicek slipped to a 7-5, 6-3 defeat to Flavia Pennetta and Samantha Stosur.

Elsewhere, Spanish duo and No.16 seeds Garbiñe Muguruza and Carla Suárez Navarro continued their recent good form with a hard-fought win over Klara Koukalova and Monica Niculescu. Muguruza and Suárez Navarro were among the standout performers during the clay court season, highlighted by a semifinal run at the French Open, and won a topsy-turvy encounter with Koukalova and Niculescu, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.

No.12 seeds Anabel Medina Garrigues and Yaroslava Shvedova had an easier time of things, requiring just 49 minutes to see off Zarina Diyas and Patricia Mayr-Achleitner, 6-0, 6-0.

Friday also saw the conclusion of the final few first round encounters, with No.5 seeds Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina among the winners, edging out Irina-Camelia Begu and Karin Knapp, 6-7(8), 6-4, 6-4.
