LONDON, England - Petra Kvitova defeated fellow Czech and friend Lucie Safarova, 7-6(6), 6-1, on Thursday to reach her second Wimbledon final.

The Plot
Since announcing herself to the tennis world with victory at Wimbledon three years ago, Kvitova has struggled to replicate this success on a consistent basis. Her quality, though, has never been in doubt. Once again the All-England Club has brought out the best in Kvitova, who dropped just one set in advancing to the first all-Czech major semifinal in history.

The Turning Point
Safarova battled gamely in the first set, recovering from dropping her serve in the opening game to force a tie-break. In the end she was undone by a couple of exquisite returns from her Fed Cup team mate, who eventually took it courtesy of a wrong-footing forehand winner.

Kvitova rammed home her advantage at the start of the second, three more weighty forehands handing her the early break. Unlike the first set, though, she held onto this lead, moving through the gears and serving beautifully to wrap up victory after an hour and 20 minutes.

"It's great, definitely. I don't have the words to describe how I'm feeling right now," Kvitova said. "It was a tough match mentally, because Lucie is a good friend of mine - we know each other very well on and off the court - and I knew she was going to play very well. I'm just very happy I won and am in the final again.

"I tried to be focused from the beginning of the second set. After I won the tie-break, I broke her in the first game of the second set and I managed to keep it going and serve well until the end."

What's Next
Meeting Kvitova for the title will be Eugenie Bouchard, who defeated Simona Halep in straight sets in the second semifinal.

"I've got two days to go until the final. I will just try my best out there," Kvitova said. "I know the feeling when you hold the trophy and I really want to win my second title here and I will do everything that I can."
