LONDON, England - Unseeded Latvian Jelena Ostapenko rolled after a first set loss against eighth-seeded Slovakian Kristina Schmiedlova to capture the Wimbledon girls' singles crown on Sunday.

Ostapenko broke serve seven times compared to five for Schmiedlova and had 40 winners compared to 17 in her 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 triumph.

"I was a bit nervous in the first set and was making some unforced errors, and my opponent was playing really well," Ostapenko said. "Then in the second set, I tried to focus on every point to get back my game. That helped me come back and win."

The 17-year-old Ostapenko also beat the 16-year-old Schmiedlova just a week prior in the final of the Nike Junior International in Roehampton, and now has nine junior titles to her name.

"This is one of the best Grand Slams, and I love it here," Ostapenko said. "The atmosphere, the grass courts and the people are all really nice. I like how everyone plays in white clothes. This means a lot and is a good stepping stone. I will now try to improve my WTA ranking and maybe be in the Top 200 or 300 by the end of the year."

Ostapenko will try to follow in the footsteps of Eugenie Bouchard, who went from the Wimbledon junior title two years ago to Wimbledon runner-up this year.

"She has improved a lot and is one of the best players on tour now," Ostapenko said. "I will try my best to learn from her and follow the same path."

The junior girls' doubles title was won by Indonesian-Chinese duo Tami Grende and Yu Ye Qiu.
