BUCHAREST, Romania - A day after three seeds were upended at the inaugural Bucharest Open, fourth-seeded Karin Knapp and seventh-seeded Petra Cetkovska were victorious over Bucharest natives and residents on an upset-free day of first round play.

Knapp converted on five of six break points in her 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Raluca Olaru on Tuesday, snapping a four-match losing streak in the process.

Cetkovska immediately jumped out to a double break and went on to a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Alexandra Cadantu a month after she also won their previous encounter in straight sets in Birmingham.

"I am very happy because it's my first match here, and I was able to beat Alexandra at home," Cetkovska said. "I am enjoying playing in Bucharest."

Yet another Bucharest native and resident also went down, as Katarzyna Piter was a 6-0, 1-6, 7-6(6) victor over Andreea Mitu. In the one-hour and 16-minute third set, Piter had a 5-3 lead and twice served for the match only to be broken each time. But she came through in the tie-break and ended her six-match losing streak.

In another dramatic match involving unseeded players, down 5-4 in the third set against Alizé Lim, Bulgarian qualifier Elitsa Kostova held, broke and held again for a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 win - her first in a WTA main draw. It also improved her to 3-0 in her head-to-head with the Frenchwoman.

Others advancing included Aleksandra Krunic and Sílvia Soler-Espinosa.

Krunic's 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory over Alexandra Panova was her first at the WTA main draw level in two years. Soler-Espinosa's 6-2, 6-1 rout of Sesil Karatantcheva was her third straight win in their history.
