Venus Williams' journey from the pothole-ridden municipal courts of one of LA's less salubrious suburbs to 21st century tennis icon is one that has prompted countless players around the world to pick up a racquet.

And, nearly 20 years on from her WTA debut, the American continues to inspire. This Wednesday, Williams paid her now annual visit to Washington's SouthEast Tennis and Learning Center to put 100 youngsters through their paces.
