And it's a fantastic draw, too. Two of China's all-time greats - Peng Shuai and Zheng Jie - are the Top 2 seeds, with a number of Asia-Pacific's brightest talents also among the seeded players, including Japan's Misaki Doi, Thai up-and-comer Luksika Kumkhum and Chinese talent Zheng Saisai.

Peng and Zheng, the only two Chinese players other than Li Na to crack the world's Top 15, both start off against countrywomen, Peng taking on Han Xinyun and Zheng squaring off against Liu Fangzhou.

The Zhonghong Jiangxi International Women's Open is the first of six WTA 125K Series events in 2014, with the next two stops also coming in China - Suzhou in September and Ningbo in October - and three more in November in Taipei, Chinese Taipei, Limoges, France, and Raanana, Israel.

The WTA 125K Series began in 2012, providing an opportunity for emerging markets to host a women's tennis product and for emerging players to play extra tournaments and earn more points.

And it has served its purpose so far. Among the champions of WTA 125K Series tournaments so far are WTA Rising Stars Kristina Mladenovic, Elina Svitolina, Lara Arruabarrena and Bojana Jovanovski.
