BAKU, Azerbaijan - Bojana Jovanovski finally ended qualifier Misa Eguchi's run at the Baku Cup with a hard-fought win in Friday's quarterfinals.

Since turning professional in 2007, Eguchi has plied her trade exclusively on the ITF Circuit, but she has certainly not looked out of place on her WTA main draw debut. Victories over Magdalena Rybarikova and Urszula Radwanska had secured her a spot in the quarterfinals, and for the first hour against 2012 champion Jovanovski it looked like her improbable run was set to continue.

Having taken an evenly contested opening set, another upset looked on the cards when she then surged 4-2 ahead in the second. However, with victory within her grasp, Eguchi stuttered, a double fault and two rare unforced errors handing the break back.

Sensing her moment, Jovanovski pounced. Leading 6-5, the Serb pegged Eguchi back to deuce before taking the set courtesy of a beautifully disguised drop shot. She carried this momentum into the decider breaking twice more to close out a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory.

Meeting Jovanovski for a place in the final will be Stefanie Voegele, who held her nerve to see off Shahar Peer. In a match short on service holds but high on drama, Voegele built an early lead in the decider, withstanding some late pressure to triumph, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.

The other semifinal pits defending champion and WTA Rising Star Elina Svitolina against the evergreen Francesca Schiavone. Early breaks in both sets helped Svitolina edge past Pauline Parmentier, 6-4, 6-4, while Schiavone won a see-saw encounter with Kristina Mladenovic, 6-3, 4-6, 6-0.
