Li Na has had to withdraw from all of her scheduled summer hardcourt tournaments - the Rogers Cup in Montréal, the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati and the US Open - due to a knee injury.

The Chinese trailblazer made the semifinals of all three of those tournaments last year.

This is the first Grand Slam tournament Li has had to withdraw from in five and a half years, since the Australian Open in 2009 - she couldn't play in Melbourne that year due to a knee injury as well.

Li hasn't just had one of the best last 52 weeks on the tour - she's No.2 on the WTA Rankings behind Serena Williams - but she has also had one of the best years so far on the tour, currently sitting at No.3 on the Road To Singapore leaderboard (trailing just Maria Sharapova and Simona Halep).
