MONTRÉAL, Canada - No.1 seeds Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci were victorious at the Rogers Cup on Wednesday in their first doubles match since their Wimbledon triumph.

The Italians converted on seven of nine break points in their 54-minute, 6-3, 6-2 defeat of Kimiko Date-Krumm and Andrea Hlavackova. They are now into the quarterfinals, a round they have yet to go beyond in four previous Rogers Cup appearances.

Regardless of how Errani and Vinci end up faring here, their terrific season has already ensured them of one of the eight spots at the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global.

Setting up a quarterfinal showdown were fourth-seeded Cara Black and Sania Mirza and sixth-seeded Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears.

Black and Mirza were 6-4, 7-6(1) winners over Karolina Pliskova and Kristyna Pliskova, and Kops-Jones and Spears were 7-6(4), 7-5 victors over Caroline Garcia and Alicja Rosolska. Black and Mirza currently rank fourth on the Road To Singapore doubles leaderboard and Kops-Jones and Spears fifth.

The biggest upset of the event so far featured Taiwanese sisters Chan Hao-Ching and Chan Yung-Jan rallying from 5-1 down in the match tie-break of their 2-6, 6-2, 10-7 win over No.3 seeds Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik.

The last two matches of the first round saw Michaella Krajicek and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova upend seventh-seeded Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic, 6-4, 3-6, 10-6, and Garbiñe Muguruza and Carla Suárez Navarro record a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Canadian wildcards Francoise Abanda and Stéphanie Dubois. The Spaniards are fresh off their first WTA title in Stanford.
