CINCINNATI, OH, USA - Victoria Azarenka has withdrawn from the Western & Southern Open due to a right knee injury, the former World No.1 and defending champion at the Premier-level event announced Tuesday.
Azarenka picked up the knee injury in her second round match last week at the Rogers Cup where she took a nasty tumble, but still powered through to the quarterfinals.
It was in Cincinnati last year where Azarenka won her most recent WTA title edging out World No.1 Serena Williams in a third set tiebreak putting on one of the best matches of 2013.
Unfortunately I won't be playing in Cincinnati this year. But I had to make the best decision for me. I will definitely be back next year— victoria azarenka (@vika7) August 12, 2014
