Others may have won more in prize money, but when it comes to off-court earnings, Maria Sharapova is in a league of her own.

In the past 12 months, Sharapova has pocketed $24.4 million, according to Forbes, who has crowned her the top-earning female athlete for the 10th straight year.

While hip and shoulder injuries sidelined the Russian for the second half of 2013, restricting her on-court winnings to a relatively modest $2.4 million, they did little to detract from her off-court takings.

From the moment she burst onto the scene as a fresh-faced teenager, Sharapova's success, charisma and photogenicity has made her one of the most sought after names in sport and the face of brands ranging from Nike to Porsche. Indeed, this June, following hot on the heels from her triumph at the French Open, Avon Products became the latest addition to her ever-burgeoning endorsement portfolio. Avon will use Sharapova as the face of its new fragrance for men and women, Avon Luck, in a deal worth more than $1 million a year.

Proving she is more than just a marketable face, over the past few years, Sharapova has also tapped into her entrepreneurial side, launching her own brand of candy, Sugarpova, and more recently taking a stake in skincare company Supergoop, where she will help promote sunscreen and anti-aging products.

Tennis once again dominates the Forbes list, with Li Na ($23.6 million), Serena Williams ($22 million), Victoria Azarenka ($11.1 million), Caroline Wozniacki ($10.8 million), Agnieszka Radwanska ($6.8 million) and Ana Ivanovic ($6.4 million) joining Sharapova in the top 10.
