CINCINNATI, OH, USA - The US summer hardcourt swing has provided plenty of highlights during Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears' partnership, and the latest example of that was their securing the Western & Southern Open title on Sunday.

In the final against sixth-seeded Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic, the seventh-seeded Kops-Jones and Spears were in complete control with a 6-1, 2-0 lead when their opponents had to retire because of a spine injury suffered by Mladenovic.

"The few games that we played, we played well," Kops-Jones said. "Unfortunately, one of our opponents was injured. It's not fun to win that way, but we'll take it."

Though this year's Western & Southern Open doubles event was upset-stricken, as none of the Top 4 seeds made the semifinals, Kops-Jones and Spears still were tested at various times.

"We had a few tough matches this week, even the ones where the scores didn't appear close," Kops-Jones said. "We learned a lot just playing a lot of matches. We love playing here. It's really well-run and is one of the best facilities that we play at."

Kops-Jones and Spears now have 10 WTA titles as a duo, including US summer hardcourt ones at Carlsbad in 2012, at Stanford and Carlsbad in 2013 and now at Cincinnati in 2014. They have two WTA titles this season, with their previous one coming at Birmingham. Their latest triumph improved them from fifth to third place on the Road To Singapore doubles leaderboard.

Kops-Jones now has 12 WTA doubles titles as an individual, and Spears has 14, including Cincinnati once before - in 2005 with Laura Granville.
