TAIPEI, Taiwan - Tatjana Maria is through to the quarterfinals of the OEC Taipei WTA Challenger after a surviving a three-set battle against Alison Van Uytvanck.

"It was a really hard match, she played really good at the beginning," Maria said afterward. "I thought I was not playing bad, but she just played really good from the beginning."

After Van Uytvanck dominated in the opening set, Maria found herself down a break in the second as the Belgian served for the match at 6-2, 5-4. With nothing to lose, Maria raised her level of aggression to break back and level the score before squeezing through the second set. She took the third in a similarly narrow fashion, winning in the tiebreak to advance 2-6, 7-5, 7-6(3).

"I said to myself, 'OK, keep going and maybe I will get my chance.' After the second set it could go either way for me or for her, but in the end it was a really good match which I'm glad I won."

Up next for the German is the No.8-seeded Marina Erakovic, who faced a tough opening set against Veronika Kudermetova but advanced 7-5, 6-3.

Also through to the Taipei quarterfinals is Luksika Kumkhum, who defeated Ipek Soylu in straight sets 6-2, 6-4, and Chang Kai-Chen who eased past Zhang Kai-Lin 6-2, 6-1.
