Clinical Cibulkova Storms Past Siegemund In Sydney

Unlike the pair's only previous match, a grueling three-setter last year in Wuhan which went Cibulkova's way, their first meeting of 2017 was a decidedly more straightforward affair with the Slovak prevailing 6-2, 6-0.
Playing at noon under the bright Australian sun, both players initially struggled to control their ball tosses. Cibulkova took full advantage, though, breaking early to go up a 3-0 lead.
Siegemund put together a brave game - punctuated by forays to the net - to cut into her deficit and get the break back, but the level footing was short-lived. Cibulkova rattled off the next nine games to take the match after an hour and eighteen minutes.
Despite the shut-out score in the second set, Siegemund had plenty of opportunities to turn things around. The German took Cibulkova to deuce in four of the six games and even held two break points, but was unable to convert under Cibulkova's all-court attacking.
