DOHA, Qatar: Samantha Stosur was the latest player to send a seed out of the Qatar Total Open, beating eighth seed Barbora Strycova 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 to secure a place in the Doha quarterfinals against Dominika Cibulkova.
Resuming in the second game of the first set after yesterday's rain delay, the pair played out a tense, even match lasting two hours and seven minutes.
Stosur made the most of Strycova's loose service game - when the Czech took a 5-1 lead in the second set, the experienced Australian put pressure on to show that the decider would be a tough task.
And the 32-year-old showed grit and resilience to dismiss Strycova - and set up that tricky quarterfinal encounter with the 2016 WTA World Tour Finals champion.
