In the first week of the 2014 season at the second annual Shenzhen Open, Li Na successfully defended her title by defeating countrywoman Peng Shuai in the second singles final in WTA history featuring two Chinese players.
Li carried the momentum from that win into Melbourne, where she collected her second career Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, eventually climbing to the World No.2 ranking.
In the same week that Li climbed to No.2, Peng ascended atop the WTA Doubles Rankings, becoming the first Chinese player to hold the doubles World No.1 ranking.
