KEY FACTS

Carla Suarez Navarro and Elina Svitolina are level at two wins apiece. Suarez Navarro won in Linz in 2013 and Birmingham three years later, while Svitolina prevailed in Cincinnati, in 2014, and Zhuhai the following year.

Elina Svitolina and Garbiñe Muguruza were losing semifinalists in last season's Brisbane event, losing to Karolina Pliskova and Alizé Cornet respectively.

Johanna Konta's victory over Madison Keys in Beijing in 2016 avenged her loss in the only other meeting of the pair, in Puerto Rico in 2010.
