NEW HAVEN, CT, USA - Reigning champion Daria Gavrilova is set to defend her crown at the 2018 Connecticut Open, with World No.13 Julia Goerges also confirmed in the draw.
Australian Gavrilova, who secured her maiden WTA title at the 2017 edition that included a huge victory over no.1 seed Agnieszka Radwanska, faces tough competition at the event, with two-time Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova also scheduled to compete.
But Gavrilova, who scored a huge upset in Rome last month over World No.3 Garbiñe Muguruza, has made two semifinals in the 2018 season so far, cannot wait to return to the New Haven-based tournament.
"I cannot wait to return to New Haven to defend my title," she said. "This tournament will always have a special place in my heart because of last year’s great run, and I’m also looking forward to hitting those fantastic New Haven restaurants!"
The Connecticut Open runs from August 17 to 25. It is a WTA Premier event and part of the US Open Series, and this year it welcomes two new Cornerstone partnerships, with energy company Avangrid and Connecticut Magazine, a publication of Hearst Connecticut Media Group, coming on board.
Fans can expect to experience a variety of off-court entertainment and activities throughout tournament week. The weeklong events for 2018 include an Invesco Series QQQ Men's Legends event on August 23 and 24, and a Beer Fest on Saturday 25.
