Qiang Wang seeks to avenge defeat to Madison Keys in her only other meeting with the American – losing in straight sets at last month’s Australian Open.
Petra Kvitova came out on top in her only previous encounter with Cagla Buyukakcay, beating the Turk in straight sets at the US Open two years ago.
Garbiñe Muguruza also came out on top at Flushing Meadows in her only previous match with Tuesday’s opponent – beating Ying-Ying Duan for the loss of just four games last August.
Caroline Garcia and Dominika Cibulkova are level at a win apiece in their head-to-head. The Slovakian won in three sets in Madrid in 2016, before Garcia avenged that defeat, winning in Wuhan a year later.
Anett Kontaveit and Alizé Cornet are another pair of Tuesday’s opponents to be level ahead of play. Kontaveit’s 2014 victory in Bastad preceded Cornet’s winning In Cincinnati two years later.
