The second event of the inaugural WTA Draw Challenge is in the books, and it was a dramatic finish.
Khjoe, Nano, Adriano, Szyczq, HorkN and Xlaoxlan-zhu each finished with 72 points out of a possible 95 in Miami. So the six-way tie for first place had to be settled with the tie-breaker for who picked the champion right. And all six correctly picked Serena Williams. The next tie-breaker, picking the correct runner-up in Li Na, was also a six-way tie. The next tie-breaker, picking the most semifinalists, was a three-way tie, with Khjoe, Adriano and HorkN each picking all four right. Finally, Adriano was declared the Event Champion by picking six of the quarterfinalists right compared to five for Khjoe and HorkN.
Adriano was accurate from the get-go, hitting on 25 of 32 first round matches, including World No.205 Nadia Petrova over World No.61 Urszula Radwanska, World No.114 Romina Oprandi over World No.40 Bojana Jovanovski and World No.105 Zarina Diyas over World No.62 Alexandra Cadantu.
Adriano got 11 out of 16 third round picks right, including World No.24 Ekaterina Makarova over World No.10 Sara Errani. And as for picking six of the eight players to win their fourth round matches and advance to the quarters, which won the tie-breaker for him, he got Serena Williams, Angelique Kerber, Maria Sharapova, Dominika Cibulkova, Agnieszka Radwanska and Li Na right, only missing on Petra Kvitova and Caroline Wozniacki. From there, he picked the rest of the draw correctly.
And through two events, Adriano is tied for first place in the race to be Season Champion with Paola with 132 points. The WTA Draw Challenge will next take place in Madrid, followed by Rome, Montréal, Cincinnati, Wuhan, Beijing and the BNP Paribas WTA Championships in Singapore.
